Computer Graphics
|
|
Ever since I was an undergraduate, computer graphics have held my interest.
At the University of Illinois, I was a member of the
ACM@UIUC SigGraph organization,
and helped start the
Sounds and Visions
electronic music and graphics concert series.
JugIt Virtual Juggler was another project I've worked
on - it's a unique blend of graphics and juggling, seasoned with a good ray
tracer, some physics simulation, and a mathematical notation called siteswap
for describing juggling patterns.
Matt Reeves and I did a presentation for the SigGraph student chapter on
computer animation techniques. Here are the
slides. I don't claim to be an expert on the subject, but hopefully it
will help someone to grasp the fundamentals of animation, or to prepare a
similar presentation of their own.

Other Activities
|
|
Although not active interests, at points in the past I've played guitar
(campfire-esque, Harry Chapin-ish stuff) and bass (blues mostly), done
research in
parallel file I/O and
parallel music synthesis, and developed
cryptographic application software.

So what's with Rasferet's Hideaway ? Rasferret is a character in
Matt Ruff's excellent novel, Fool on the Hill. The book is set at Cornell
University, and I chose the name as my handle while I was spending 2 very
unusual years there. The character in the book is an evil creature with
telekinetic powers. I, of course, am not, thus the different spelling of the
name.
And if you really care, you can read about my personality traits:
at the core I'm an
INTJ,
with some contributing elements of
INTP and
ISFJ,
and even a bit of
ISTJ
thrown into the amalgam. Check out more personality information at
sunsite.unc.edu, or take the
personality tests at keirsey.com.
And now, a small look at where I've been for the past few years:
